OUR MISSION

The BAYMEC Community Foundation is dedicated to the creation of a more equal future for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ+) community in Silicon Valley and neighboring regions.

Through a balanced approach of equitable programs, the BAYMEC Community Foundation (BCF) strives to engage in community discussion on LGBTQ inclusion and equal rights, ensure the equal access of LGBTQ-supportive safety-net services, chronicle local LGBTQ history and culture, and foster the next generation of LGBTQ leaders.

OUR STORY

The BAYMEC Community Foundation is an organization driven by progressive ideas, bold actions, and a strong foundation of support. Dealing with the challenges of today requires problem-solvers who bring different perspectives and are willing to take risks. BAYMEC Community Foundation emerged out of a pursuit to inspire and support the community, and a desire for actions to speak louder than words. In 2013, the Bay Area Muncipal Elections Fund, or BAYMEC for short, decided to establish a nonprofit foundation dedicated to education, services, and issues affecting the local LGBTQ community. BCF is tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization governed by an independent board of directors.. In 2019, the BCF board decided to place former Santa Clara County Supervisor Ken Yeager as its first Executive Director.
